Maroonteenth weekend, is our annual celebration of freedom both here and abroad. Maroonteenth is a time for us to reexamine what freedom looks like. From historic examples such as Queen Nanny of the Maroons, to contemporary examples such as the Creole peoples of the South, Black people have historically taken freedom upon themselves creating self-governed societies.

To celebrate, we will kick off the weekend on Friday with a film screening and live podcast. The following day, we will begin the day celebrating the life of Mama Juanita Brown-Ewell and unveiling some new additions to the garden that she once stewarded. Later that day, party with us during our first ever Liberation Lounge. On Sunday, we will close out the weekend with a ceremonial work day highlighted by an interactive cooking session lead by Crystal Forman of Holistic Health & Wellness.
